Knowledge Director V1 overview

Review draft. This source page has not completed website editorial and release-specific verification.

Knowledge Director stores personal Knowledge for a stable semantic Subject. UKnowledgeComponent is the authority for one Subject’s authored baseline and runtime state; UKnowledgeSubsystem owns registration and persistence coordination for a Game Instance.

V1.1 retains Facts, Evidence, Beliefs with confidence from 0 to 100, Provenance, Disclosure records, and semantic persistence. The editor tools separate a strictly read-only Runtime Inspector from Runtime Controls, which provide explicit Runtime Edit and Advanced Debug Override operations. Facts and Evidence remain monotonic through normal gameplay APIs. Beliefs are subjective positions and may be wrong. A Belief record at confidence 0 is present and is different from an absent Belief record.

The core plugin is usable by itself. SaveGame adaptation is an optional DirectorBridge integration; Dialogue and SignalBus integrations remain optional. Integrations call or observe the core’s public contracts and do not create a second Knowledge authority.

  • UKnowledgeComponent: per-Subject state and query/mutation API.
  • UKnowledgeSubsystem: Game Instance registration and persistence API.
  • FKnowledgeProvenance: source classification and conditional source identity.
  • FKnowledgeItemReference: exact Fact, Belief, or Evidence identity for Disclosure.
  • FKnowledgePersistenceSnapshot: semantic live and dormant runtime deltas.
  • FKnowledgeMutationResult: structured mutation outcome.

The public headers are under Source/KnowledgeDirectorRuntime/Public.

Runtime Edit in Runtime Controls calls the ordinary authoritative APIs; Advanced Debug Override is an editor-only overlay and not a normal removal/forget API. Normal runtime edits can be snapshotted. Debug overlays and their pre-debug baseline are excluded from persistence, and explicit Restore Debug Baseline discards later canonical changes for that authority. See Runtime Inspector, Editor Tools, Advanced Debug Override, and Persistence. V1.1 submitted in CL294.
